Hi Xander, can you share with us what had got you interested in waterfall abseiling?

Well, that has to be from the very nature of the team I am in. SMUX Xseed is a CCA Club in SMU that enables everyone and anyone to try out any kind of activities. This is one of the main reasons why I initially joined the team 2 years ago and have grown to be part of it. After trying activities like paintball, wind tunnelling, parkour and ATV, waterfall abseiling is just another in the list.

How about the top 5 must-bring items for your water abseiling trip?

I always travel light, bringing as little as possible, hence just the basic essentials and neccessities and try to make do with them during every trip. Honestly, I can’t think of 5 items, but these are the only necessary things I bring – Change of clothes as water abseiling will result in you being wet and dirty so a change of clothes is necessary to remain clean. First aid too, as safety is extremely important. And obviously, one has to bring his passport. (:

I’m sure memory from this trip is unforgettable for you! Do you have a most memorable instant from your trip?

Haha, it will definitely not be the ride to the waterfall! The bus ride was long and tiring, and the lorry ride to the waterfall was not butt friendly as it was so bumpy and uncomfortable. The most memorable instant was when I was hanging across the cliff of the waterfall. I had to fight against the water gushing down my feet and I love the excitement and anticipation of taking the first step out.

Definitely! It is the most exciting and extreme activity I have done thus far. Not only can you get an adrenaline rush that you have never experienced before, you get to enjoy the sight and free bath in the water fall! (:

All right, to wrap up this interview, do you have any travelling tips for beginners engaging in the same activity as you?

Yes. Never be afraid. In fact, never be afraid to try out new things, even if they sound insane. You wouldn’t want to live your life and regretting later down the road that you have not tried a particular activity.
